Volunteer Services
Volunteers provide friendly visiting, grocery shopping, friendly calling, rides to medical appointments (Silver Bay, Two Harbors and Duluth), outside chores and light housekeeping. Currently we have over 65 volunteers providing in excess of 3000 hours of direct service per year.
Installation of Emergency Telephone Systems
in cooperation with Cooperative Light and Power and Lake County Human Services. Staff members install and maintain Mainstreet Messenger and Linear products for elders in the area.
Service Coordination
Service coordination is staff assistance, but more than just “information and referral” it is actual assistance with paperwork and navigating systems.
Health Promotion
Northshore Area Partners brings in speakers and information that is pertinent to area elders. Recent examples are a Grief Support Group, offered together with the Human Development Center and a class series focused on nutrition, strength/balance and falls prevention. NSAP supports the Senior Linkage Line staff in establishing local (Silver Bay) office hours.
Block Nurse Program
One benefit of the Block Nurse Program is a commitment to have Blood Pressure Checks before the monthly meetings of the Northshore Golden Age Club. There are often around 30-40 elders at these monthly meetings.
Frozen Meals on Wheels
Northshore Area Partners works in collaboration with the Minnesota Veterans Home of Silver Bay and the Finland Coop to provide Meals on Wheels in the Beaver Bay, Finland, Isabella and Little Marais area. Meals are prepared by the Veterans Home and transported by Northshore Area Partners volunteer to a freezer at the Finland Coop. Volunteers then pick up the meals and deliver the meals and milk to participants.
Fall Prevention
Northshore Area Partners provides home safety checks and follow –up services to attend to potential fall hazards in the home. (installing grab bars, extra lighting etc.) This work is done in collaboration with the Lake County Falls Prevention Coalition.
Certified Support Planner
We have a certified support planner on staff.
Caregiver Consultant Services
Caregiver Consultant Services are designed to help family caregivers as they go through the many changes of the caregiving process. A caregiver consultant can sit down and talk with the family caregiver to assess what needs they have, determine what services are available to meet those needs, and educate them on how to use these services. Some of the services offered through the program include caregiver assessment, caregiver support, family meetings, service coordination, education and respite care. By helping support family caregivers we can assist them in keeping their loved ones in their home as long as possible.
Who is a Caregiver?
Someone might be a caregiver and not realize the task that are helping their loved ones with are part of caregiving. Helping someone go to the doctor, get groceries, pay bills, cooking or doing some housekeeping and even helping with personal care can all be caregiving tasks. Caregivers may be family members or friends or neighbors that are helping out.
Respite Care
Respite care allows you to take a break by having a volunteer sit with your loved one. This gives you the opportunity to visit with friends, do some shopping, or just have some “me” time. There are different types of respite care and the caregiver consultant can help you find the right fit.
Caregiver Sharing Group: A place to share thoughts, feelings and ideas about caregiving with other caregivers in the area. Meetings are held:
2nd Wednesday of each month at the United Protestant Church from 1:00 pm to 2:30 pm.
